Brief Report

The Department of Civil Engineering in association with the NSS Unit of the National Institute of Technology Raichur organized the World Environment Day celebration on 5th June 2025 at the institute campus. This year’s global theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” was highlighted throughout the event to raise awareness and encourage proactive environmental actions among students and faculty.

The program commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. M.V. Mallikarjuna, Principal of NIT Raichur, who emphasized the need for sustainable development and ecological restoration practices in engineering and community planning. Dr. M. Satish Reddy, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, addressed the gathering and explained the department’s commitment to green practices in construction and infrastructure development.

As part of the celebration, the following activities were organized:

• Tree Plantation Drive: Over 50 saplings were planted in and around the campus by students, faculty, and staff to promote greenery and improve the local ecosystem.

• Student Speeches & Presentations: Selected NSS volunteers and civil engineering students delivered informative talks and presentations on environmental protection, sustainable urban development, and waste management.

• Poster & Slogan Competition: Creative student posters and slogans on environmental themes were displayed, and the winners were felicitated.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. The NSS Program Officer, Mr. Dineshkumar K G, coordinated the activities with support from volunteers and civil engineering faculty.

The celebration concluded with a pledge taken by all participants to protect and preserve the environment through individual and collective efforts. Refreshments were provided at the end of the program.
